Greenfield Township Purchases New Body Cameras for Police

The Greenfield Township Board of Supervisors approved the purchase of new body cameras and car cameras for the township police department at their July 5 meeting. The equipment and five years of support will cost the township $50,872, according to Ami Fether, township secretary-treasurer.

The new cameras, produced by Motorola Solutions, will replace aging technology that is considered obsolete.

Ronald Sharkey, police chief, stated that the new system will send video to the cloud instead of being stored on a server in the office. This will help to improve the department’s efficiency in tasks such as sharing video. Rather than burning a disk and physically taking it to court, a link can be shared securely by a web link.

The board moved to donate $2,500 in American Rescue Plan funds to Claysburg PAST to support Christmas lights at the Claysburg Community Park.

Claysburg Community Days will be held Aug. 13-14 at the park.

A bolt-on fork attachment owned by the township was sold for $1,800.

The township’s mileage reimbursement rate was increased from 58.5 cents per mile to 62.5 cents per mile for the second half of the calendar year, in line with federal standards.
