Martinsburg Nuisance Ordinance to be Updated

No Grace Period For Third-Time Offenders

Nuisance Ordinance No. 563 will be revised after discussion at Martinsburg Borough Council’s July meeting.

This ordinance says that police issue a warning when a resident’s grass and/or weeds are too high, and the resident has seven days to fix their yard before being issued a citation.

Police Chief Kerry Hoover said the problem this summer is that residents are receiving warnings, mowing their grass in the seven-day period, then waiting until they receive another warning to mow again. Hoover said the department has had more issues this summer than ever before.
