Greenfield Twp. Hears Proposal for Music Garden In C-burg Community Park

Two pieces of land owned by Greenfield Township along Athletic Field Drive have been donated to the Claysburg-Kimmel School District. The gift was approved by township board members at their Aug. 2 meeting.

With the donation, the district will have common ownership over all of the land where the high school sports facilities are located. The move will help with ongoing upgrades planned at the facilities.

Previously, the district leased the softball field from the township in a 99-year agreement that was signed in the 1970s. The property has been in use by the high school since 1945, according to Joe Claar, board member.

The district is the only one using and benefiting from the property, Jordan Oldham, board chair, stated, while explaining his support for the transfer.

Supervisors also provided conditional approval to a land development plan that will allow the district’s current lot and new land to be merged together.

Crystal Gilchrist and Cynthia John, daughters of Robert and Jean Gordon, were on hand to ask the board about donating items to the Claysburg Community Park in recognition of their parents. Establishing a music garden, with musical instruments such as a babel drum and chimes, was one idea. The women planned to meet with Oldham at the park to further discuss the proposal.

The board approved a motion to contribute $150 to the Claysburg Area Farm Show.

Seal coating of township roads has been completed for the year, Oldham reported.

An old oil tank in the police department has been removed. The room where it was stored has been converted into a police records room. A propane and heat pump system are being used in place of oil.
