Demolition Complete

The demolition of the old J. Leonard Replogle High School in New Enterprise was completed as crews set fire to the remaining scrap wood inside the building and pulled the brick walls into the foundation. The contractor salvaged as much wood and fixtures as possible before finishing the job. The building was constructed in 1917.
The Central High School Band won First Place Overall in the parade at the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City, N. J. The band also won First Place Band and First Place Band Front.
The teacher’s strike at Claysburg-Kimmel entered its second week. Following a five hour session of negotiations with a state mediator, the district offered the faculty a $6,750 starting salary. The teachers were asking for $7,000 and unanimously rejected the offer in a 47-0 vote.
Frank Ernest of Altoona scored his second ace in golf recently at the Iron Masters Country Club.
