Mrs. Rebecca Kauffman died at her residence on East Julian street after a painful illness from a cancerous affection. Mrs. Kauffman, nee Stoner, was born on the old Stoner homestead near the borough limits, June 19, 1840 and was aged 57 years, 3 months, and 3 days at her death. On September 20, 1860, she married Joseph Kauffman who died near Winchester, W. Va., June 20, 1865, having given his life for his country. She is survived by three children. She bore her great affliction with Christian fortitude until the end of life’s struggles.
