Spring Cove Approves Increase

The Spring Cove School Board stuck close to federal wage guidelines and approved a 5.5% pay increase for nearly all of the 61 non-professional personnel in the district.

The teacher strike in the Claysburg-Kimmel School District entered its third week with no indication of a settlement. The sides were near agreement on compensation, but still far apart on making up days lost to the strike. The board wanted to stick with the original calendar, but the teachers were asking for make-up days.

The Central Cheerleaders held a pep rally before the football game with Hollidaysburg. As part of the program, 1972 CHS graduate David Dilling walked his heifer labeled with “Let’s Make Hamburger Out of Them” across the gym.

Mid-State Bank and Trust Company was offering “Picture Checks”. The checks featured a photo of the account holder in the upper left, and they were advertised as “instant identification” and “positive protection” if the checks were lost or stolen.
