Reactor to be Phased Out

The atomic reactor at Saxton was scheduled to be phased out of existence by May, 1974, with a loss of 70 jobs in the area. The reactor was put into operation in 1962 and served as a training center for nuclear engineers and reactor operators around the world. It was also used for research and development.

Charles L. Packard sold Ore Hill Orchard in Taylor Township for $100,000 to Dr. Daniel M. Friday and Dr. Lee P. Hacker. Peter S. Duncan started the orchard around 1911, and Mr. Packard purchased it in 1938.
