Charles J. Baker

Charles J. Baker, 84, of Martinsburg, formerly of Roaring Spring went home to be with the Lord Saturday morning, Sept. 17, 2022.

He was born Jan. 1, 1938, in Roaring Spring the son of the late Charles A. and Ada M. (Grace) Baker. He married Donna M. Snyder on June 16, 1957, in Roaring Spring.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters: Cindy Whiting and husband Donald of Pittsburgh and Carla Wilfong and husband Tino of Altoona; five grandchildren: Alex Whiting (Jaya), Ben Whiting (Olivia), Taylor Whiting (Jen), Harrison Wilfong, and Sydney Wilfong; and four great granddaughters: Ava, Devi, Kaci, and Brinley.

He was preceded in death by a son, Clint Baker and two sisters, Enid Tetter and Janet Ebersole. Charles was a lifetime member of Bare Memorial Church of God where he had served as President of Church Council, Sunday school and Bible study teacher, and was an elected Life Elder of the Church. He was a 1955 graduate of Roaring Spring High School.

He retired from Appleton Papers after 44 years of service. Charles, along with his wife of 65 years, loved to travel, visiting all 50 states. He also served as a Boy Scout leader for six years, producing four Eagle Scouts; and he also served on the District Committee, earning two Scouter of the Year awards. One of his proudest moments was presenting the Eagle Scout rank to his son, Clint. Charles also served on the Roaring Spring Water and Sewer Authority. He has served as chairman and had supervised the building of the sewer plant. He was a 12 year double lung transplant survivor.

A funeral was held Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022, in the Bare Memorial Church of God, Roaring Spring. Pastor Dave Williams officiated. Interment was made in Greenlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Charles’ memory may be given to the American Red Cross, 250 Jari Drive, Johnstown, PA 15904 or CORE, the Center for Organ Recovery and Education, 204 Sigma Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15238.
