Jennie M. (Smith) Turner

New Enterprise

Jennie M. (Smith) Turner of New Enterprise, 89, went to her eternal home on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022.

She was born July 28, 1933, in Elk County as the daughter of George and Hattie (Timblin) Smith.

Jennie married Paul S. Turner on Sept. 8, 1951. He preceded her in death June 9, 2012. Their daughter Sharon (Turner) Helsel preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 2018, and she was also preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

She is survived by two sisters, Luella Wolff and June Craft.

Affectionately known as “Nana” by many who knew and loved her, Jennie is survived by son Paul D. (Karen Ritchey) Turner of New Enterprise and son-in-law David Helsel of Woodbury. She had seven grandchildren: Brent Helsel (Julie), Larae Wiedemann (Todd), Eric Helsel (Jessica), Keith Helsel, Stephanie States (Shawn), Megan Hall (Ryan), and Kimberly Helsel. She had seventeen great-grandchildren: Julia and Sarah Helsel; Luke, Levi, and Chloe Wiedemann; Rebekah and Nathanael Helsel; Aleigha, Ava, and Alexia Helsel; Zachary and Kyler States; Makayla, Matthew, and Mariah Hall; and Olivia and Turner Helsel. She was also blessed with two great-great granddaughters: Kiiara and Nevaeh States.

Jennie was thankful to have married into a loving family and share additional brothers, sisters, and families.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Alice Turner and Marjorie Hall, and brother-in-law, Ralph. She is also survived many loving nieces and nephews.

Jennie was an avid Pirates fan and enjoyed watching their games. Nana spent many hours on sidelines and bleachers, watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports. For many years, she worked with her husband on their dairy farm, and they enjoyed taking their grandchildren on trips and traveling with special friends. She was a member of the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren.

A celebration of life service was held Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren. Interment took place at the Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southern Cove Fire Company or EMS.
