Benefit Auction Raises Over $160,000

The 25th Annual Public Benefit Auction and Bake Sale, held in support of the Clinic for Special Children and the Central PA Clinic, was a success. An interview with Kathy and Herman Nolt took place Oct. 3 and following is the outcome.

Friday evening the rib dinners, which sold out in 45 minutes raised $6,600. This year, there were 300 dinners. Next year, organizers hope to make about 800. The organizers thank all who stood in line or were not able to get a dinner for being patient and understanding.

Friday night hoagies, ice cream doughnuts coffee and drinks were sold, and this also went very well. A total of $9,920 was made on Friday night.

Folks were able to preview auction items for Saturday, Sept. 10 sale for the first time. This has proven to be a good idea and next year, rib dinners and previews will also be on Friday night again.

The silent auction brought in $3,013. Over $16,000 was raised from the sales of homemade quilts. Also, a buggy sold for over $13,000.

This year a speaker was present to discuss the importance of organ donation. Dr. Holmes Morton also attended to discuss what they have been doing in the clinics. Next year, hopefully the clinic in Intercourse, Pa., will be finished and will be much larger than the one in Strasburg. This will help to accommodate many more folks as they have outgrown the one in Strasburg.

There were many businesses and individuals who contributed to this auction to make it a success for the community and for the clinics. The Nolts and their committee wish to thank everyone who participated in donating, buying, and helping in anyway to make this auction such a success.

Next year's auction will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9, with a preview and rib dinner on Sept. 8. Homemade ice cream, doughnuts and coffee will also be available on the 8.

The total amount made from the auction this year was $165,214.
