Lady Dragon Volleyball Finds a Victory

The Lady Dragon Volleyball team faced three tough opponents throughout the week, including the Johnstown Lady Trojans, the Somerset Lady Eagles and the Bedford Lady Bisons. The Dragons were able to find victory against the Trojans with a 3-1 victory. However, the Dragons were swept in a 3-0 loss against the Eagles and lost in a 3-2 match to the Bisons.

The Dragon Volleyball team started the week defeating the Trojans through four hard fought sets. The Dragons lost the first set 25-21, but took over in the second set, winning 25-7, then winning the final two sets 25-14. Kirsten Ayers had 10 kills, while Heather Brumbaugh had two solo stuffs and eight kills. Maya Hazenstab had 23 good serve receptions and 17 good digs. Kaitlyn Weitzel had four aces, 10 kills, and 26 assists, earning her 500th career assist during the night.

In the second match of the week, the Dragons were defeated in just three sets, losing 25-17 in the first two, then 25-22 in the last. Ayers had five kills and two good aces. Dessa Boyles had one solo stuff and two assisted stuffs. Hazenstab had 28 good serve receptions and 14 good digs. Weitzel had 14 assists as well to round out the night.

During the last match of the week, a hard-fought battle throughout the whole night through five sets left the Dragons with a loss. The Dragons won the first set 25-10, then lost the second 25-18. Central regained the set lead with a 25-20 win in the third set, but a 25-22 loss in the fourth set left the game tied with one final 15-point set left. Sadly, the Dragons couldn’t come out on top and lost the final set 15-11. Alex Klotz had 20 good serve receptions and 16 good digs, while Madison Kennedy had 27 good serve receptions and nine kills. Weitzel had 18 good digs, 32 assists and nine kills, while Kenna Kocsis added 10 kills. Ayers had 11 kills and Boyles had three solo stuff blocks and one assisted stuff block.

The closing of another week brings the Dragons to a record of 3-8. Next week, the Dragons will face the Richland Lady Rams, the Bishop Carroll Lady Huskies, and attend the Windber Girls Volleyball Tournament.
