Blair Concert Chorale Begins 2022-23 Season
October 13, 2022
After a hiatus from performing during the pandemic and then a successful return to singing in 2021-2022, the Blair Concert Chorale and Artistic Director Chris Bartley are embarking on the 2022–23 season with gusto and vigor. The 2022-2023 Program “The Kingdom…The Power…The Glory” will be an exciting season that will appeal to all audiences — the young, the mature, the serious music-minded, the light music-minded, the classical, and the modern preferences.
The Kingdom, The Power, The Glory includes music of Benjamin Britten, Eric Whitacre, Telemann & Handel, and contemporary music of Andre Thomas, Jonathan Larson, and Hans Bridger Heruth.
The 2022-23 season will open with “The Kingdom” on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church, 14th Street and 12th Avenue, Altoona.
In recognizing the vast animal kingdom as well as other aspects of nature, the Blair Concert Chorale will perform a full program of pieces celebrating the Kingdom. The central piece of the program is Benjamin Britten’s “Rejoice in the Lamb” featuring guest organist Claude Fabinyi as well as soloists who are members of the chorale. “The Firefly,” “The Cow,” “The Cricket,” and “The Panther” from “Animal Crackers,” musical settings by Eric Whitacre to Ogden Nash’s animal poems continue creating our personal zoo as does Whitacre’s “The Seal Lullaby” and Herbert Howells’ “Like as a Hart.”
Moving into nature is “Awake, O North Wind” by Daniel Pinkham, “Gartenlieder (A Garden Song)” by Fanny Hensel, “La Lluvia-The Rain” by Stephen Hatfield, and John David’s “You are the New Day.”
The Blair Concert Chorale is under the direction of Christopher Bartley. Bartley became artistic director of the Blair Concert Chorale in May 2020. He is music director and instructor of music at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg where he conducts the Pitt-Greensburg Chorale and Chamber Singers.
The BCC 2022-23 season will continue with “The Power” on Saturday, Dec. 10, and “The Glory” on Saturday, May 13, 2023, both at The Sanctuary at ArtsAltoona.
General admission tickets are available at Thompson’s Pharmacies (Chestnut Avenue and Hollidaysburg), through EVENTBRITE and at the door. Tickets for the concert are also available by emailing: [email protected]
