Vince Heaton Sworn In To Woodbury Borough Council

On Monday, Oct. 3, the Woodbury Borough Council conducted its regular meeting at 7 p.m.

President Shawn Claycomb opened the meeting with a Pledge of Allegiance to the flag and calling the meeting to order.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. This included the resignation of Shane Suter due to him moving to another municipality.

The treasurer’s report was reviewed and approved. The second phase of COVID-19 assistance funds was received, which was $13,860. Volunteer Fire Relief money totaled $1,431 and will be sent to Southern Cove Volunteer Fire Company.

Treasurer Barb Wilt explained that the township is moving its bank accounts from Mid Penn Bank to Hometown Bank because of bank locations. After expenditures, there was a total of $106,829 in the borough General Fund as of Sept. 30. The total in the borough general fund and state aid in both banks is $183,943.

In old business, the Kaufman House, which is owned by Altoona First Savings Bank, was emailed a copy of the grass ordinance. The borough is also trying to recover legal fees related to the property of $811. This property has tall grass, rocks and needs to be graded, according to the borough.

Linda Licata, a resident of Woodbury borough, discussed damages that she said G&R Demolition did when demolishing the property. There was spouting damage to a home next to the property. Also, she explained that the curb and sidewalk had damage from the project. She was advised to call Altoona Savings Bank about the house damages. The borough will review the curb and sidewalk and grading issues.

Woodbury Community Center provided meeting minutes from May and July. There were no June minutes.

A dusk-to-dawn light was installed at the south side door. Interior windows in Food Bank were repaired.

Doug Miller cleaned up stones from WACC front yard. Rental fees may be increased during winter due to increased fuel costs. Boiler plant was inspected and is reportedly good for another year. A new American flag and POW flag were purchased.

Vince Heaton was sworn in by President Shawn Claycomb as new council member.

The Halloween trick-or-treat date was set for Oct. 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a rain date of Oct. 29.

The next regular meeting of borough council will be Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.
