Lady Dragon Soccer Dominates with Defense

The Lady Dragon Soccer team faced three opponents throughout the week, including who is likely to be their most difficult challenge of the regular season, the Bedford Lady Bisons. As a precursor to the Lady Bisons, the Lady Dragons faced the Central Cambria Lady Red Devils as well as the Forest Hills Lady Rangers. The Lady Dragons found victory in all their matches throughout the week, topping the Lady Red Devils 5-0, the Lady Rangers 2-0, and the Lady Bisons 1-0.

Against the Lady Red Devils, the Lady Dragons started the shutout game with four goals scored in the first half. Brynn Miller started things off with a goal at 6:47 assisted by Lakkyn Dibert. Ella Garner followed with a header score at 12:12 from a corner kick by Kira Trexler. Carlie Hart had a back door goal at 24:23 off of a crossing pass from Jenna Smith. Garner scored once more before the half ended with an assist by goalkeeper Darcy Heltzel at 38:13. Garner scored the last goal of the game for the Lady Dragons in the second half at 72:55 with an assist by Hart. Heltzel had two saves throughout the game to rally the Lady Dragons to victory.

The Lady Dragons held another shutout game against the Lady Rangers in their next game. Early in the match, Garner scored a header goal at 14:51 from a corner kick from Trexler. Holding a 1-0 for a majority of the game, Central's Traxler scored an unassisted goal at 76:36 from 30 yards out to cap the Lady Dragons' victory. Goalkeeper Darcy Heltzel had three saves throughout the game in contribution to the victory.

In the third match of the week, the Lady Dragons faced a challenge with the Lady Bisons. Garner scored the Lady Dragons' sole goal of the game with an assist by Dibert. A critical piece of the game was the Lady Dragons' defensive prowess. The Lady Dragons' backline defense consists of Smith, Rachel Theys, Danielle Heltzel, and Skyler Miller as well as defensive midfielder Paiton Campbell who all heavily contributed to the Lady Dragon victory. Keeper Darcy Heltzel had six saves throughout the game, including pivotal saves in the second half with mere minutes remaining.
