Heavy Rains Fall on the Cove

Herald of Nov. 13, 1997

Heavy rains fell on the Cove with 6.35 inches reported at the Blair County Airport. The borough of Williamsburg was the hardest hit area in the region when the Juniata River overflowed its banks and damaged properties along First Street. A Mount Etna man died from an apparent heart attack after escaping from his car that was trapped in the flood waters.

The preliminary results of a feasibility study done by the Allegheny Institute in Pittsburgh on privatizing the Blair County Airport were presented to the airport authority in a meeting. The authority members said they would take more time to review the final study before making any decisions.

Voter turnout for the general election was relatively low due to a lack of voter interest with only a few races at the local level. Many municipal offices were filled by persons running without opposition.
