Lady Dragon Soccer Score Victory in District Opener

The Lady Dragons' impenetrable defense led them to their 4-0 victory over the Cambria Heights Lady Highlanders in the District Six AA playoff opener. A coordinated balance between the Dragons' offense and defense provided the perfect storm for the Dragons to seize victory.

After some offensive back-and-forth, a stop from the Dragons' back line led to a shot up field from Jenna Smith to Carlie Hart, who advanced on the goal and assisted Katie Ritchey in the Dragon's opening goal. The score remained at 1-0 for the rest of the half, but a scoring penalty kick early in the second half by Ella Garner extended the Dragons' lead. Soon after, the Dragons went for another scoring attempt from a corner kick by Kira Trexler. The pass connected with Bethany Kensinger. Though the goalie had blocked her shot, Garner followed up on the rebound for another score for the Dragons. Trexler capped the Dragons' scoring with an unassisted goal later in the second half.

The Dragons' defense limited the Highlanders to just three shots, all of which were stopped by goalkeeper Darcy Heltzel. The Dragons' backline plays a key role in their game plan and will continue to do so in their next bout against the Tyrone Lady Eagles in the District 6 2A Semi-Finals.
