Corn Drying Round the Clock

Herald of Nov. 13, 1947

Corn drying at David Showalter’s dehydrating plant near Curryville is now continuing on a 24-hour schedule as thousands of bushels of the golden harvest are shipped from Morrisons Cove.

Armistice Day showers forced a postponement of the Roaring Spring-Williamsburg high school football game, but did not prevent holiday programs in the schools and a parade in Roaring Spring. Robertsdale High lost 6-2 at Claysburg on a muddy field.

The Class of 1949 of Roaring Spring High School sponsored the annual junior-senior high school Hallowe’en party on Nov. 1, in the community gymnasium. Before entering the party hall, all were required to pass through a “tunnel of horror” which featured “dead men’s eyes”, spider webs, electrified ropes and all sorts of weird frightening noises.

A pigeon roast was enjoyed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Steele in honor of the birthday anniversary of their son, Harold, and also the birthdays of Mrs. Chalmer Claar and her mother.
