The annual children's Christmas party at the Freedom Township fire hall took place on Sunday, Dec. 4, with nearly 70 children enjoying the afternoon with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The annual event was begun about four years ago by long-time Freedom Township Supervisor Daniel "Butch" Giarth, who passed away two years ago from complications of COVID-19.

Freedom Township Supervisor Ed Bender said since Giarth's passing, the Christmas party has become not only something for the kids to enjoy, but also a way to honor Giarth and his commitment to helping the people of the township.
