Schools Reviewing Safety

Herald of Dec. 20, 2012

Local schools were reviewing their safety plans after the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. Twenty children and six adults were shot at the school by an intruder. School districts in the Cove already had some security measures in place, like locked entry doors and security cameras, but the superintendents said they would be looking into other options to provide more protection to students and staff.

Jeff Appleman, coach of the Claysburg-Kimmel girls basketball team, hit the 500 win mark as a head coach. The Lady Bulldogs defeated West Branch to give Appleman the milestone win.

Students in the Williamsburg School District’s Ag Science Class grew lettuce in the school’s greenhouse to serve to their fellow students in a salad during lunch. The ag students grew the lettuce from seed, and harvested it for use in the cafeteria. They were planning to continue to grow the lettuce through March.
