A 10-hour power outage is planned for the Martinsburg and Williamsburg areas on Wednesday, Dec. 28.
The Blair County Emergency Management Agency notified municipalities on Dec. 12 of the outage, which is planned to begin at 7 a.m. on Dec. 28 and continue until 5 p.m.
Affected are 709 electric utility customers in and around the following areas of Martinsburg and Williamsburg: Clover Creek, Cove Mountain, East Allegheny Street, East Christiana Street, Fredericksburg, Oakdale, State Route 164, State Route 164 East, Route 2011 (Clover Creek Road) and Woodlawn.
The “rain date” for the outage will be Thursday, Dec. 29, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
All affected utility customers with valid phone numbers on record with Penelec will receive an automated telephone call notice.
Martinsburg Borough Manager Rich Brantner Jr. told the Herald that Martinsburg is considering setting up warming centers due to the length of the outage. Those interested should contact the borough.
Penelec informed the municipalities that the outage is to “upgrade ... facilities for enhanced circuit reliability for ... customers.”
