James R. Myers

James R. “Jim” Myers, 73, of Martinsburg, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday morning, Dec. 13, 2022, at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, Roaring Spring.

He was born Sept. 12, 1949, in Muncy, Lycoming County, son of the late Burrows H. “Joe” and Frances L. (Lyke) Myers. On October 7, 1972 he married Cynthia K. Metzler at the Curryville Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy of 50 years; a son, Matthew J. Myers (Meghan) of Hollidaysburg; a daughter, Misti M. Anderson (Eric) of Coatesville; two grandsons: Cameron and Caleb Myers; two brothers: George J. Myers (Kaye) of Littlestown and David H. Myers (Jan) of Williamsburg; and a sister, Nancy L. Johnson (Ken) of Martinsburg.

He was a 1967 graduate of Central High School, Martinsburg and also attended Robert Morris Junior College in Pittsburgh.

Jim was employed from 1968 until 1986 at Hershberger & Myers Insurance Agency in Martinsburg. He then worked for various other insurance providers in the area, having a total of 50 years in the insurance business.

Jim was a devoted and faithful member of Curryville Church of the Brethren, where he served in many capacities. He was extremely active in his community serving on various boards and organizations, including: Martinsburg Vol. Fire Company, Borough Council, Rotary Club, Jaycees, Bicentennial Committee, Little League, the Morrisons Cove Memorial Park Executive Committee and was an auxiliary member of the D. Merl Tipton V.F.W. Post 43, Martinsburg.

He loved his country, community and spending time with his family, especially attending all his grandson’s events. Jim also enjoyed watching Penn State, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. He was an avid golfer and longtime member of Iron Masters Country Club, where Jim served as past president.

A funeral took place Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022, at Curryville Church of the Brethren. Pastor Chris Heinlein officiated. Private interment was held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Jim may be given to Curryville Church of the Brethren (Building Fund), 1535 Curryville Rd., Martinsburg, PA 16662.
