Lady Dragon Basketball Edges Out First Victory

The Lady Dragon Basketball team ended the week 1-1, coming upon the cusp of victory but falling just short against the Bishop Guilfoyle Lady Marauders 52-46, then seizing a 53-52 victory over the Bishop Carroll Huskies later in the week.

Facing the Marauders, Elana Decker and Megan Diehl led the offensive charge with 11 points each. Down by 11 at half, the Dragons held the Marauders to only six in the third quarter, shortening their lead in the process. With a more intense second half, the Dragons picked up the tempo to compete with the Marauders but fell just short in the final minutes of the game.

The Central JV also took a loss to the Marauders, 38-33.

After trailing at the end of the first half by a small margin, the Dragons returned with fire in their eyes, and won the second half 24-20, edging a one-point victory over the Lady Huskies. Diehl led with 13 points throughout the match, while Decker and Bralyn Ellis each added 12. MacKenzie Rhykerd also scored 10.

The Dragon JV team fell to the Huskies as well, 36-28.

This jump to a 1-3 record provided the Dragons their first win of the year, and the first career win for Coach Courteney Lingafelt. With high hopes of continuing the winning streak, the Dragons prepare to face the Richland Lady Rams and the Central Cambria Lady Red Devils.
