CK FBLA's Serving Seniors Soup Sale Raises $2,070

Due to the increased costs of food, heating oil, and medicine, Claysburg-Kimmel's Future Business Leaders of America Chapter has created a community service project for the 2022-2023 school year. "Serving Seniors," has been created by Emma Gill, Erica Norotsky, and Launa Musselman to help defray costs for senior citizens in the area.

During the month of January, Claysburg-Kimmel's students participated in a soup sale to help raise money for our community service project. On Saturday, Jan. 14, CK FBLA members sold soups to parents, teachers, and community members for $8 a quart. The soups were donated by Elaine and John Smith, Richard Allison, Christine Leslie, Roger and Pam Knisely, Janet Crist, Brenda Marriner, Carla Claar, and Alan Claar.

This soup sale took place at the Christ Lutheran Church. Soups included chicken rivel, chicken rivel with corn, Italian wedding, broccoli cheddar, sausage potato with mushroom and kale, vegetables beef, and chicken noodle. The proceeds from the sale, $2,070, will be given back to the community through this community service project.

With the support of the Claysburg community and local businesses, Serving Seniors has distributed a new total of $3,200 in heating oil and $1,000 in gift cards for medicines and food. Future plans are to distribute more funds for heat, medicine, and food. We will also be spreading the love this season by holding a special Valentine's Day surprise for our seniors.

Several local businesses and organizations have partnered with "Serving Seniors" with generous donations. They include NPC, Inc., Claar's Notary, Troy Swindell Trucking, Women of The ELCA, Salvation Army, Thrivent, and Brenda Marriner.
