Farm Show Looks to Improve Kitchen, Clean up Property

“I see no issues,” Catharine Township Supervisor Heather Flaig said of the proposed Red Kitchen remodel presented to supervisors during last Thursday evening’s meeting.

Shawn Brubaker, on behalf of the Farm Show, presented three different options of the remodel to the Farm Show’s Red Kitchen that has shown need for a new facelift. Brubaker told supervisors that the first option, which included more of an L-shape kitchen was preferred by the Farm Show Board. Flaig explained that the Farm Show would need both a demolition and a building permit, and then made a motion to approve the remodel with Ken Brenneman seconding. The motion passed.

Brubaker also said that the Farm Show wants to do some brush clearing in the back of the property. This motion also passed.

Questions were asked about an update on the Act 537 Plan of the township. Supervisors explained that Sewage Enforcement Officer Luke Helsel was still inspecting the sewer systems in the township with a small number still needing inspection. There was no further discussion on the topic.

The township is still looking for an auditor – if any Catharine Township resident is interested, they are urged to contact the office as the audit will start in a few weeks.

Ben Postles, representing Penn England Farms, asked who to contact in the township when there is poor weather and milk trucks get stuck on Fox Run Road.

“The farm doesn’t shut down,” Postles said noting two instances already of this happening. Postles was given a few more phone numbers to call if this situation arises again.

In his roadmaster’s report, Michael Fay said the red truck owned by the township should be advertised on municipal bids along with/without the snow plow and spreader. The bids will be opened during the February meeting. Fay also asked for the township to solicit estimates for a metal canopy to cover the township’s anti-skid pile. Fay said the canopy would have to be roughly 15 by 20 feet.
