School Board Searches for New Director

The Williamsburg Community School Board is down one director following last Tuesday evening's meeting.

Joe Detwiler, elected in 2021, resigned as director during the meeting, due to moving out of the borough district. Detwiler and his family will be moving to Woodbury Township and will seek a Woodbury Township director seat in the upcoming election. Detwiler's tenure, although short, proved to be an inspiration for some other directors.

Adam Hileman said of Detwiler, "It has been an absolute pleasure working with Joe on the board. He bleeds blue and white and cares deeply about the kids and the community. Hopefully, he will return to the board down the road."

With the vacant seat, residents of the borough are encouraged to send a letter to the district if interested in the open position.

Elementary Principal Jennifer Metzler told the board of several events happening for the students: a visit from the Curve's mascot, Loco and a presentation from the VFW to the third grade class regarding flag etiquette.

Secondary Principal Jennifer Frederick said a blood drive was held at the school, Keystone Testing winter sessions took place, and the end of the second marking period was on Jan. 13t.

The board approved the resignation of Charles Stitt as the district's police officer, effective Dec. 13, 2022.

The board approved the hiring of Jeff Detwiler as the new library/computer teacher.

Jerry Palmer was announced as the new junior high head baseball coach.
