Library Director Retiring

Herald of Feb. 7, 2013

Joyce Paden, library director at the Martinsburg Community Library, announced she was retiring on June 30. Paden began working at the library 40 years earlier as the assistant to Mary Creps. In 1978, when Creps retired, Paden became the library director. Her first big assignment was coordinating the move of the library from three rooms on the second story of the old borough building to the current location at Morrisons Cove Memorial Park. Paden also helped transition the library into the computer age with internet stations for patrons and an automated circulation and ordering system.

A car accident that knocked out a utility pole resulted in a power outage for Taylor Township, including the Spring Cove Middle School which canceled classes for the day. The accident occurred at 1:30 a.m. when an intoxicated driver failed to negotiate a curve on Cove Lane near Doctor Drive. The driver fled the scene but was apprehended later that day.
