Roaring Spring

John M. “JM” Thompson, 85, of Roaring Spring, died peacefully at home Friday morning, Feb. 24, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Jan. 19, 1938, in Roaring Spring, son of the late Lester and Sarah (Dick) Thompson.

He married Ruth L. Mock April 18, 1959, in Winchester, Va., and she died March 31, 2016.

JM is survived by three children: Randy Thompson and his wife, Brenda, of Roaring Spring; Tina Ross and her husband, Alan, of Saxton; and Raymond Thompson and his wife, Bernie, of Dillon, Mont .; his loving honey bunny, Lynn; a brother-in-law who was raised in the home, Ken Mock (Tina); six grandchildren: Michele, Eric (Shawna), Jessica (Lee), Kayla (Tyson), Thomye (Cliff) and Mikayla (Corey); 22 great-grandchildren: Noah, Parker, McKenzie, Makayla, Jaxon, Charlee, Olivia, Blake, Thea, Benjamin, Skyee, Savannah, Suzannah, Sutton, Chanler, Conner, Aubrey, Brooklyn, Izabell, Cole, Kelsi and Avery; a brother, Harry Thompson, of Duncansville; and two sisters, Betsy Ritchey of Queen and Belva Fredrick (Glenn) of Ore Hill.

He was preceded in death by a son, Rick E. Mock; two grandsons, Jeremy Mock and Travis Thompson; and five siblings: Fred Thompson, Girlie Knisley, Tucker Thompson, Boyd Thompson, and an infant sister.

JM was a member of the United Church of Christ.

He attended Morrison Cove High School and retired in 1999 from New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. after 39 years of service.

JM had also served as a Taylor Township supervisor for many years. He enjoyed camping, traveling, and spending time with his family.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring, (www.thompsonfh.com). Pastor Earl Herr officiated. Interment was made in East Sharpsburg Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in JM’s memory may be given to the East Sharpsburg Cemetery Association, c/o Bobbi Jo Rogers, 4165 Cove Mountain Rd., Roaring Spring, PA 16673.
