Altoona businessman James Schwab was killed when his single-engine Piper Cherokee private plane crashed into Lock Mountain. His last call to the airport asking for landing instructions at 6:12 p.m., but did not respond to the tower operator. Rescue parties searched the normal airplane approach path and found the wreckage and body at 10:30 a.m. the next day, off Lock Mountain Road near Seldom Seen Road to the west of Martinsburg. Mr. Schwab worked for the Bon Ton in Altoona, and was on his way back from a business trip to New York.
