Second Hee Haw Show Rescheduled for Tomorrow

The Claysburg Community Chorus and The Claysburg Rotary presented the 20th annual Hee Haw show this past Friday, March 3, at Claysburg-Kimmel High School. A second show was scheduled for Saturday, March 4, but due to a power outage, it was canceled and rescheduled for tomorrow, Friday, March 10.

According to the show director Dan Crist, the Hee Haw show is a form of variety show that has skits and jokes. Special groups come and perform as well as The Claysburg Community Chorus. It is patterned after the old Hee Haw show that was on television.

"Back in the day and age, there was a lot of shows that were called variety shows," Crist said. "Of course, Hee Haw was country-themed. Some of the things that we do are actually jokes from the show or skits that could have been on the show."

Money made from the shows benefits the rotary club. The group also gives tickets to sell to Boy Scouts and Claysburg-Kimmel FBLA.

"Everything that they sell, they get to keep all of the money," Crist said.

Heidi Kennedy and Matt Imler have been the emcees for the event for over a decade.

Kennedy said that this is her absolute favorite thing to do all year.

"I get to be silly and funny and make people laugh and help people have a good time. This show means the ability to give people the best medicine of all and that is laughter. Out of all of the stuff I do, I love being on stage."

Kennedy expressed her hope that the audience enjoys themselves at these shows and continues to support the community,

"I hope that they take away that feeling that they had a good time and a good event that is really family-oriented fun," Kennedy said.

Imler added that this show is a place where the cast members can come, have fun and get out of their comfort zone to entertain some people. The audience can come for some cheap entertainment.

"I grew up watching the Hee Haw show in syndication, watching with my grandparents," Imler said. "I just remember seeing those guys have so much fun, especially in the schoolhouse scene. That is how I got started. I was asked to do the schoolhouse scene and 15 years later, I am still in the schoolhouse scene."

Crist said that he thinks that this is a great activity for anyone who wants to be a part of the chorus and for the cast to get together and have some fellowship and laughs.

Kennedy added that this is a show that anyone can join.

"Anyone can come sing with us and be part of the show. You don't have to have experience. You don't have to be a great actor or singer to be able to come on stage," Kennedy said. "If you ever thought, 'I would really enjoy being on stage,' this is the type of show to join."

Crist added that the rotary is very thankful for the special acts that come to give their time to help add to the show.
