Other Guys' Ideas

As a fly-fisherman I have come up with few original ideas. Most of the things I know about fishing had already been developed by older generations of fishermen. For instance, modern fly-fishermen sometimes think they invented fishing two dry flies at a time. That's a nice thought, but it isn't true. When I was young and learning to fly-fish, I saw local Williamsburg fisherman Sam Lower fishing two dry flies at a time. He chuckled and told me, "If one dry fly is good, sometimes two are better.
