If we were to look for a verse that summed up the challenge of the Book of Judges, It would likely be 17:6, 18:1, 19:1 and 21:25. Now they are not exactly alike but they could and should be: “…everyone did as he pleased (or as he saw fit in his own eyes).” The fact (or fiction) that they had no king figures in as well. Actually Israel did have a king, someone to make decisions for them, rule over them, to lead them. That someone, that King, was God.
