Central Band Wins Award

The Central High School Marching Band won the President’s Award for the Outstanding Band of the Parade and the Mayor’s Trophy for first place high school band in the Maple Festival parade in Myersdale. Directed by Jack Shaffer, the Central band competed with more than 50 marching units.
Mrs. Edna M. White, 61, of Robesons Extension, Williamsburg, suffered fatal injuries when her car struck a tree along Rt. 22 at Canoe Creek at 6:10 a.m. on Tuesday. For some unknown reason her car went out of control and left the road. She was a nurse’s aide at Altoona Hospital.
The Rev. and Mrs. D. L. Pepple of Woodbury observed their 65th wedding anniversary April 11. The Rev. Mr. Pepple is a retired banker and Brethren minister. He is 88, his wife is 87. He credits his wife’s good cooking for the good health they enjoy.
Barry Mellott, 9, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Mellott of Martinsburg, was the prize winner of the annual Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. Barry, a student at Taylor Elementary School, was a member of Den 4, Pack 58.
