No Work Due to Coal Shortages

Hundreds of Morrisons Cove men employed in the Pennsylvania Railroad’s Altoona Works remained at home this week because of a furlough caused by the current coal shortages. Although most miners were reported back in the pits after their 29-day pension dispute, railroad officials had not indicated when the shopmen would be recalled. All but a handful of cove men were ordered to stop work last Saturday Night.

More than 100 books were borrowed from the Martinsburg Community library during the first two hours of operation last Sunday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Leidy and the employees of the Martinsburg and Hollidaysburg Leidy’s Stores left Wednesday morning to attend the Frigidaire Convention in Pittsburgh.

Supervising Principal John Jack of Williamsburg has been authorized to interview candidates for a vocational agricultural appointment, with the idea that a department of that type be opened in the fall at the high school.
