SCPR Holds First Tractor Pull of the 2023 Season

On April 15, Plow Days and the first tractor pull of the year took place at the Southern Cove Power Reunion. The weather was unpredictable, but some plowing did manage to take place. Jim and Greg Clapper and Bob Reffner managed to do some plowing despite the off-and-on rain showers. Up until 12:30 p.m., it was unsure if the pull would take place, but the rain subsided enough to have it.

People came from all over, anxious to participate and observe the pulls with the various sizes and makes of tractors.

Raffle tickets for a gun raffle and tickets for the tractor and prizes to be given out in October at the fall event were sold all day. Another fundraiser this year was selling bags of peanuts with a coupon on for a free appetizer in Texas Roadhouse. All will continue to be sold at each event.

Vendors attended with western apparel and jewelry. Food trucks and other crafters may also come to the events and set up. Melanie Clapper has apparel for sale at each tractor pull.

Admission is always free for spectators and there is always food available from the kitchen.

The next event at the grounds will be Southern Cove Fire Company and Ambulance Service's Agricultural Safety event on April 29, which will be open to the public. Lunch will be served.

The next Tractor Pull will be on June 17. Weigh in is 3 p.m. with pulls starting at 4 p.m. Tractors of all sizes are welcome. There will be flea market and craft show set ups available. Contact Jason Hileman for more information at (814) 494-2388.

The annual SCPR Club Members and Pull Awards Banquet will be held on May 20 at noon at the SCPR grounds. A chicken BBQ will be served made by the Royal Ranger Group from Everett. Those planning on attending must RSVP by May 5. The phone number for questions is (814) 937-0044.

The club needs people to make and donate a basket for the basket raffle at the banquet. Anyone who would like to donate a basket may also call Melanie at the above number.

The club is always welcoming new members. Contact Melanie if you are interested in joining.
