School Board Faces Deficit

The Claysburg-Kimmel School Board was facing a $545,520 deficit for the 2013-14 school year. The board has been using savings in past years to balance the budget, but those funds were being depleted. Board members were looking for ways to cut the budget, and were examining the costs of programs that were not required by the state.

Officer Andrew Wyandt resigned from the Greenfield Township police department, leaving a vacancy in the department. Wyandt was moving to a position in the Altoona Police Department.

Cayden Wright, a third grade student at Spring Cove Elementary School, and Griffin Snowberger, a first grade student at Martinsburg Elementary School, received honorable mention awards for their submissions to the PBS Kids Go! Writers Contest. The two were at Mr. Rogers studio at WQED television station in Pittsburgh to receive their awards.
