Dragon Softball Falls to Bald Eagle Area

In a three-game week, the Lady Dragon Softball team found crushing victories in their first two matchups against the Bishop Guilfoyle Lady Marauders and the Johnstown Lady Trojans with 15-0 victories over both, including a Senior Night victory over the Trojans. Sadly, as the week neared its end, the Dragons fell to the Bald Eagle Area Lady Eagles in a crushing 10-0 defeat.

Against the Marauders, the Dragons jumped to an early lead as they normally do, scoring eight in the first inning, followed by one in the third, and six in the fourth to put the game into a mercy-rule victory for Central. Winning Pitcher Kennedy Hoyt allowed only one hit, striking out eight and walking one on the defensive side, while having two RBIs on the offensive side.

For Senior Night against the Trojans, the game ran much the same, starting off with an early Dragon lead ending in a mercy-rule victory. The Dragons only scored one run in the first inning, followed by four in the second, then five in both the third and fourth to end the game. Seniors include Ellie Dilling, who had one hit and two runs scored, Maya Hazenstab, who was walked all four at-bats with two runs scored as well, and Lacey Lynn, with one hit, two runs scored, and three strike outs as the starting pitcher. Madison Kennedy had two hits with two RBIs along with eight strikeouts as the relief pitcher. Lynn and Kennedy combined to pitch a no-hitter.

Against the Eagles, the Dragons were not so lucky. Being completely shut out, the Dragons’ offense lacked the capability to score throughout the game. Pitcher Lynn struck out five throughout the night and had a double on the other end of things, but the Dragons still fell short in the end.

With a record of 13-3, the Lady Dragons will prepare to face the Richland Lady Rams, the Phillipsburg-Osceola Lady Mountaineers, and the Altoona Lady Mountain Lions in the upcoming week.
