School Prohibits Skateboarding

The Spring Cove School Board voted to prohibit skateboarding and rollerblading on school property by a 8-1 vote. Dorothy Hershberger cast the lone “no’ vote, arguing that the school district should provide a safe place for skating and other activities for young people. The board formed a committee to look into finding a safe place for such activities.

William Cramer, founder of the Williamsburg Heritage and Historical Society, organized an event to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Williamsburg Community School District. The festivities included a banquet, picnic and community chorus concert.

The demolition of the former Benson School building was taking longer than expected. A delay in asbestos removal was the cause.

Target Stores of Minneapolis announced plans to open a store in Altoona on October 11.

Corey I. Jones of Wyndmorr, Pa was named the new chief executive officer of the Morrisons Cove Home.
