Pasture Walk to be Held In Bedford Co.

Penn State Extension invites dairy, livestock and horse owners, as well as agriculture industries, to the Pasture Walk with Extension from 10 a.m. to noon, June 28 at the Bill Shoemaker Farm in Manns Choice. This pasture walk is designed to help farmers who graze their animals learn tips to improve their pasture quality.

Topics to be covered at the event include soil testing, tips to evaluate pastures, and strategies for pasture management and renovation. Bill Shoemaker will share his pasture management strategies and discuss how he uses a feeding pad to eliminate issues arising from mud during the winter months. Penn State Extension Educators Leanna Duppstadt and Melanie Barkley will discuss other pasture management tactics.

There is no cost to attend the event, but if you plan to stay for lunch there will be a $10 fee, payable at the event, to cover the cost. Registration is requested by June 26.

To register for the meeting, call (877) 345-0691 or visit https://extension.psu.edu/pasture-walks-with-extension-beef-farm. For more information about the pasture walk, contact Leanna Duppstadt or Melanie Barkley at the Penn State Extension Bedford County Office at 814-623-4800 or by email at lms5900@psu.edu or meh7@psu.edu.
