C. Sherman Dick Received Award

C. Sherman Dick of Martinsburg RD 2 received the “Carrier of the Year” award for Blair County during the Pennsylvania Rural Letter Carriers Association (RLCA) State Convention in Gettysburg. Mr. Dick began his career with the U.S. Postal Service in 1968 and became a regular rural carrier in 1982.

Ninety-four fish were caught and an estimated 200 children participated in the annual Roaring Spring Fishing Derby. June Beth Zimmerman, 5, took first place in the 3-6 year old group with a 25-inch trout. Torie Sipes took first in the 7-10 age group.

Rodney Hoover retired as coach and physical education teacher from the Northern Bedford School District. As varsity wrestling coach his teams accumulated 248 wins, 39 district titles and four regional championships.

Cove Shoe Co. employees donated $11,659 to the 1998 Relay for Life. The company team was one of two in Blair County awarded the Platinum Award, given to those who raise at least $10,000.
