President Harding Dies

Herald of Aug. 3, 1923

Warren G. Harding, President of the United States, died instantaneously and without warning Thursday night at 7.30 o’clock, a victim of a stroke of apoplexy, which struck him down in his weakened condition after an illness of exactly a week. Upon his passing the office of president devolves upon Calvin Coolidge, vice president of the United States.

On Sunday evening while returning from camp meeting, Albert Gephart of Loysburg was struck by a car in front of his home and knocked to the ground. He was cut on the face and somewhat bruised but was able to be around the next day.

On account of the Memorial Picnic Thursday of next week, the merchants of our town have decided to omit closing the stores Wednesday afternoon and evening, August 8 and will close all day and evening on Thursday August 9.

The Old Timers Picnic scheduled for Saturday July 28 in Henrietta was rescheduled to sometime in September.
