Novelty Baseball Game Planned

Herald of Aug. 5, 1948

An outstanding novelty baseball game, matching the great Harlem Globetrotters and the Honolulu Hawaiians, has been arranged for Athletic Park, Roaring Spring on Friday night August 6, at 8:30. Ed Hamman, famous baseball clown, is also set to appear with his bag of stunts before, during, and after the game. Jesse Owens, winner of four first place medals in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, will give an exhibition of hurdle jumping and race against a horse owned and ridden by R. O. Maxwell of Roaring Spring.

Ten hives of bees on the Fern Kauffman farm at East Sharpsburg went on a rampage last week. Every one of the nine sheep on the farm was stung again and again, leaving two dead lambs in their wake.

The milk dealers of area 9, of which Blair county is a part, will increase the price of milk for the consumer to 22 ½ cents per quart. Other states had raised their prices, and it was feared if Pennsylvania didn’t, producers would send their milk outside the state for the higher price.
