Herald of Aug. 17, 1923

The Klu Klux Klan met in a large forty acre field in Curryville on Saturday night. Attendees came from many parts of the state as well as Maryland, with attendance estimated to be at least 25,000. Cars belonging to the members of the Klan were parked in a circle about the roped off section, the fronts facing the center and the headlights furnishing the light for the ceremonies. About 400 persons were initiated during the ceremonial, in the course of which three crosses were burned. The ceremonial lasted from 5 to 10:30 o’clock.
