Farm Show Starting Next Week

It might be the best time of the year for us Williamsburgers!

The Farm Show is in town from Sunday, Aug. 20 to Friday, Aug. 25. Being a former Farm Show Queen myself, I always get excited about this time of the year; it really highlights the best things about Williamsburg: agriculture, community and of course, good food!

This year’s farm show is filled with lots of new and exciting things. Board member Angie Walason said that the Farm Show Board is excited about the amusement rides, which have been missing from the farm show for the last couple of years. Walason also promises a wide variety of different food booths.

“There’s so many,” Walason said. “Something for everyone.”

It’s also the return of the Red Kitchen, which is newly built and stocked with their famous sandwiches.

Walason said that this year, there has been a substantial increase in the amount of animal entries.

“The barns will definitely be full,” Walason said.

Sunday will be highlighted by the opening of the concessions and rides along with the Car Show, the Fair Queen Contest, and Jeff Corle as the entertainment.

Walason said this year the entertainment committee “brought in new entertainment along with keeping the favorites from other years.”

Monday is Youth Day along with the first-time ever Micro Wrestling at 7 p.m. Tuesday is Senior Citizen Night, highlighted by Stephanie and the Wild Hearts. Wednesday will be the 869 Band, and Thursday, the parade will begin at 6 p.m. with the line forming at Cenveo beginning at 5. Ricky Lee will be rounding out the evening with a performance beginning at 7 p.m. Friday will be the fireworks beginning at 9:30 p.m., and Chris Woodward/Shindiggin’ will be the highlighted event along with the tractor pulls.

“We are excited to bring new things to the Farm Show,” Walason said. “It’s going to be a great combination of tradition and hopefully, some new traditions.”
