Sewer Line Stalled

Herald of Sept. 6, 1973

For a time a Martinsburg sewer line project and a second one to serve residents of the new Homewood complex were stalled because of a dispute with landowners, W. Gene Henry and Roger L. Smith. The borough had initiated eminent domain proceedings to acquire right-of-way to allow the lines to cross their farm, but Henry and Smith agreed to the right-of-way after the borough consented to provide sewer services for their property outside of the borough lines.

The 43rd annual Claysburg Community Farm Products and Flower Show will open with a pageant to select the 1973 farm show queen. Thomas Ringle is in charge of the contest set to begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the C-K high school gymnasium.

Furniture Galleries, a new retail furniture store owned by A. Donald Mingle and located in the former Hite’s Furniture building on Main St. in Roaring Spring opened its doors. Mrs. Donald Mingle and Mrs. Melvin Beegle will manage the store, assisted by Mrs. Merl Hess.
