Welsh Travels to Russia

Brooklyn Welsh of Roaring Spring, a junior at Central High School, traveled to Russia through the National Security Language Initiative for Youth on a scholarship to learn the Russian language. While there she was immersed in the Russian language and got to experience everyday life with her host family.

Four students of Hoover Martial Arts Center have been promoted in the ranks of Black Belt in Okinawa Kenpo Karate and Kobudo. Ken Reed Jr., Dustin Guyer, Shane Wismeyer, and Brock Hoover completed the necessary requirements for their respective promotions at a formal testing in June. In July they traveled to Reading to test in front of a board of IKKF senior instructors where they were promoted.

Three local buildings received significant damage by vehicles this week. The Claysburg Dollar General, the Spring House Grille in Roaring Spring and St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Martinsburg were damaged in separate accidents, but all involved cars that were not properly parked in gear.
