Henrietta Boy Found

Herald of Sept. 20, 1973

A young Henrietta boy was missing for seventy hours before being found. Merle Glass Jr. wandered away from his home on Wednesday morning, Sept. 12. Firemen and state police were summoned and hundreds of people responded to a call for volunteers, including Samuel McMurtrie, Brian Wills and Gary McQuait, all students at Tussey Mountain High School. They found the lad on Saturday morning, sheltered under a rock outcropping. The boy was hungry and thirsty, but unhurt.

A Martinsburg woman, apparently a victim of a stroke, was found in her car in a cornfield off Rt. 36 near Roaring Spring. Mrs. Sylvia Boor, 70, left her son’s home at 7 p.m. Tuesday. At 3 p.m. Wednesday Ralph W. Glass noticed damage to the cornfield. He found Mrs. Boor, still in her car, and called for help. She was reported to be in fairly good condition at Nason Hospital.

Martinsburg and Williamsburg police departments joined the Blair Police Radio Network. Anyone wishing to contact the police by phone should ask the operator for Enterprise 4226.
