Friends Gather for Funeral

Herald of Sept. 28, 1923

H. M. Stoner, wife and daughter Ruthanna of Mechanicsburg, R. D. were among friends in this vicinity Tuesday. They came to attend the funeral of little Miss Grace A. Neff, which was held in the Woodbury Brethren church on Tuesday afternoon. Grace Neff was a foster child of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Long, of Altoona, and died Sunday afternoon of pneumonia. Mr. and Mrs. Stoner were accompanied by Miss Whitmer, Matron of the Brethrens’ Orphan’s Home and Paul Neff and two daughters, father and sisters of the deceased child who was aged about four and a half years.

James Simpson had the misfortune to be injured by a large lump of clay in a mine near Williamsburg. His son-in-law, J. W. Kifer, broke his right arm while going for help. He was attempting to crank a car engine when the car backfired and he broke his arm on the crank. Dr. J. C. Frye was called and rendered first aid to both men.
