Dale R. Kensinger, Sr.

Centre Hall

Dale R. Kensinger, Sr, 87, of Centre Hall, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023, at the Eagle Valley Personal Care Home in Milesburg.

He was born on Dec. 5, 1935, in Martinsburg, the son of the late John C. and Fannie A. (Riley) Kensinger.

Just three days shy of 50 years ago, on Sept. 29, 1973, in Centre Hall, he married his adoring wife, Darlene R. Vonada, who survives at home.

Dale graduated from Morrison Cove High School in 1953 and enlisted with the United States Air Force. After his time spent in the military, he worked as a truck driver for Womeldorf Trucking and eventually became a contractor and an owner of Kensinger Roofing. He retired in 2000 after more than 25 years in the business.

Dale attended the Family Life Church of Penns Valley.

Dale was a character. He was a member of the Lone Pine Hunting Camp and found joy in the outdoors; hunting, fishing, and traveling.

He was a compassionate man who loved his family beyond measure. He cherished each moment spent with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He would often be seen supporting his grandchildren in their performances and sporting events. Dale was a husband, father, colleague, and friend to many, but his favorite role was grandfather. He was called Grandpa, Papa, Pap, or Pappy. The name may have been different, but they all meant the same thing, a steady and reliable man, willing to assist in any way possible, full of love and understanding, and always up for a good chuckle.

Along with his wife, Dale is survived by their seven children, Edward E. Kensinger (Nancy) of Martinez, GA, Dale R. “Butch” Kensinger, Jr (Debra) of McClure, Donald R. Kensinger of Lewistown, Ronald L. Kensinger (Jamie) of Hubbard, Ohio, Kimberly S. Crossman (Kyle) of Bellefonte, Michael D. Hazel (Carol) of Spring Mills, and Dr. Daniel R. Kensinger (Carol) of Jefferson, SD; 15 grandchildren, Jeremy (Christina), Andrew, Seth (Melissa), Bradley, Jason (Chelsea), Drew, Alexa, Courtney, Cassandra (Louie), Corey (Cameron), Ryan, Tristan, Joshua, Tyler, and Zachary; and six great grandchildren, Bryce, Aubrey, Elliot, Rhett, Dean, and Cohen.

Along with his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Alaina Kensinger and his two siblings, John Kensinger and Eleanor Metzger.

A funeral was held Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc in Centre Hall. Pastor Dave Williams officiated. Dale was laid to rest privately at Centre County Memorial Park.
