Council Voted to Move Bell

Herald of Oct. 25, 1973

Martinsburg Borough Council voted to move the old bell from the attic to a new belfry in front of the borough building. The bell, which used to be in a belfry on top of the building when it was a school, was moved to the attic for safe keeping during World War II, when the belfry was converted into a lookout tower. After the war, the belfry was removed, and the bell remained in storage.

Free chest X-rays were being offered in Martinsburg for people 18 years of age and older and school children with a positive reaction to a tuberculin test or a referral from a physician....
