Fair Turnout Expected

Herald of Oct. 28, 1948

A fair turnout is expected for next week’s presidential election. Most political dopsters predict a Dewey-Warren win for the Republicans, although President Truman appeared to be adding enthusiasm, if not hope, to the Democratic campaign.

The Blair County Airport was planning for the start of four daily passenger flights beginning March 1. Two eastbound and two westbound flights were scheduled. The flights would be operated by All-American Aviation Company.

Mr. and Mrs.James Shawley of Williamsburg rescued two Martinsburg men from their wrecked and smoking automobiles on the Piney Creek highway, along the Marion Smith Farm, about a mile and a half north of Martinsburg. Robert L. Holsinger and Stanley R. Sellers were both semi-conscious according to Mr. Shawley. He had to pry the door open on the Holsinger vehicle to rescue the man. Neither was seriously injured.
